Doubletree by Hilton Hotel Johor Bahru is a luxurious 4-star hotel located 10 minutes walk away from Komtar JBCC/City Square Mall.
The hotel is one of the few properties near City Square mall that you can book under S$100. Yes! It’s very cheap for a hilton hotel. It’s our primary go-to hotel when we visit JB on the weekends.
Rooms were going at about S$97 per night for a King Guest room and S$114 per night for a King Deluxe room. Since we didn’t make any plans at night, we decided to book the King Executive room for about S$180 per night. This includes access to the executive lounge for breakfast and evening cocktail.
The hotel is a walking distance away from Komtar JBCC. You can take the exit at the main entrance near Swavorski on Level 1. Cross the road and walk towards Amari Johor Bahru. Continue walking until you reach the intersection leading to the expressway. Then turn left and continue up hill.
We always take Grab for about S$2 because we felt that it’s too dangerous to walk along that path. The car ride takes about 3-minutes.
We arrived at around 3.00 pm on a Saturday and the check-in queue can be really long on a busy weekend. While we were in the queue, the manager gave us two cookies that were fresh out of the oven! It’s a bit sweet for but Mickey seems to be enjoying it.
The King Executive Room
There are two configurations for the executive rooms: one king bed or two super singlebeds. Both are identical in terms of room size and their amenities.
While the executive room is not as big as the ones in some other hotels, it is reasonably sufficient for a short stay. It’s cosy and comfortable at the same time.
The bathroom comes with a standing shower and it’s generally brighter than our bedroom (hah!). It’s clean comes with all the bath amenities that we can expect. The executive room does not come with a bathtub. If you are looking for a bathtub, you will need to upgrade to a suite.
We are also delighted to find that our complimentary bath amenities are provided by Crabtree & Eveyln. Mickey enjoyed the amenities since she’s a huge fan of the brand.
The room is equipped with various connection points at the work desk. We find this very convenient because we can plug our entertainment system directly to the television. If I remember correctly, there are both VGA and HDMI available at the desk.
The Executive Lounge
Since we did not make any special plans for our dinner, we decided to fill our stomach at the executive lounge. Well the truth is… we were too lazy to get out of the hotel again.
The pre-dinner cocktails and refreshment are served every evening from 6.00pm to 8.00pm while the breakfast is between 6.00am to 10.30am or 7.00am to 10.30am on the weekends.
The executive lounge was incredibly crowded on the weekends. We had visited the hotel several times and it’s rare to see the executive louge not packed with crowds.
If you have a bigger group, we suggest to arrive earlier so that you can get a table before the cocktail evening starts.
We didn’t take any picture of the food but the spread was pretty impressive. We had fried rice and some finger food for our dinner. Of course, we enjoyed the variety of booze that they offered in the lounge.
Doubletree Johor Bahru has been our top choice if we need a short staycation in JB. The only problem that I had is the distance to the shopping malls. It’s not very far but it’s not super convenient if you need to get something at the last minute.
The executive room is considered expensive as compared to some other hotels in the vicinity. However, I find it really worth to pay additional just for the access to the lounge due to its impressive spread at the executive lounge.
