Hotel Review: Amari Johor Bahru (Junior Suite)
Jun 5, 2018
3 minutes read

Amari Johor Bahru is the new kid in Johor Bahru. It’s a 5-star hotel located right in front of Komtar JBCC mall.

We booked our Junior Suite at approximately S$230 per night, which is extremely cheap for an entry-level suite as compared to the price in Singapore.

If you want to leave the hotel later, you can choose to pay for “Late Checkout” when you book the hotel. I think it should be possible to pay at the reception when you arrive but it depends on the room availability.

When you arrive at Komtar JBCC, you can take the exit near Swavorski and cross the traffic light to reach the hotel. I feel that the location of the hotel is very strategic as you are very near to both the shopping malls and checkpoints. This saves time from booking a car and getting stuck in the traffic.

The Junior Suite room offers 51 sqm space to its patrons. The room comes with complimentary WIFI access, whole-day refreshment, breakfast and happy hour at the executive lounge.

Upon walking in, we felt that the room is really bright and spacious. There isn’t any separation between the bed and the living room. The bed is so huge that we thought it’s enough to accommodate a family of 4 (with 2 kids).

The layout, however, is weird. Sofa is placed 90 degrees to the TV and the executive table is placed in a corner. We usually spent our dinner time at the executive table but we will have to shift the chair so that we can watch the TV together.

As usual, we spent most of our time in the room watching TV. It is unfortunate that the extension ports are not working in the room yet. It could be due to the fact that the room is still very new.

There are two complimentary coffee capsules in the room, which you can use the machine to right beside the TV to make your morning coffee. If you prefer tea, you can always make TWG tea with the tea bags in the room.

The bathroom is not particularly large for the entry-levle suite. However, you can still find double sinks in the bathroom such that you and your partner didn’t have to fight in the morning!

If you need to rejuvenate with bubble baths at night, you can rest assured that you can do that in the Junior Suite! You can also find the rain shower in the same area.

Bath amenities at Amari Johor Bahru are in-house but they are rather decent. We have also used the same set at Amari Watergate in Bangkok. If you need more amenities, you can request from the housekeeping!

If you like alcohol, you should get access to the executive lougne since it’s really hard to find alcohol in Malaysia. The pre-dinner cocktails and refreshment are served every evening. You can also have your breakfast in the executive lounge in the morning.

Now, Amari Johor Bahru has quickly become my top choice if I need to stay overnight at Johor Bahru. Even though it’s a 5-star property, the price is really reasonable and cheap compared to 5-star hotels in Singapore.

If you are looking for a place to impress your spouse or celebrate a special occasion, the Junior Suite is definitely one of the places you should consider. Otherwise, you can opt for the lowest room category for a quick staycation.
